And just when all hope was lost, there it was. A shimmering beacon of light ahead… The Cape Town Wedding Festival.

Packed with really useful things for the soon-to-be-wed couple. From invitations to flower girl dresses, photographers to honeymoon destinations. Every aspect that would need to be considered, found under a big, white, air-conditioned marquee situated in the middle of the Cape's beautiful V&A Waterfront.

My first instinct (because I am a guy), was to do a quick lap of the marquee, glancing briefly at each stand just to say that we'd been there. Kirsty, on the other hand, saw this as a quick pre-screening of things to come, and I soon found myself doing a second lap at a much slower pace.

If I am honest with myself, I have to admit that the Wedding Festival was really fantastic. It had everything we needed to put together a wedding celebration that would be remembered not only by ourselves, but by all the people involved. The Dressing-up Box was strategically positioned right next to the Lindt Chocolate display, and while the women were busy trying on countless wedding dresses, the men were over the way, snacking on as many free Lindt chocolates as they could get their hands on while looking over their shoulders every now and then, to grunt approval at their beautiful brides-to-be.

Kirsty and I spent the afternoon trying on wedding bands, browsing table settings and layouts, eating freebies and collecting information. All this, while enjoying live background entertainment provided by a very talented female singer.

That evening was spent going through all the business cards and pamphlets we had collected at the Festival. Kirsty had the biggest smile on her face the whole time and it was awesome to just sit there, working though the pile of information we had gathered, and enjoying the anticipation of what lay ahead.

The Wedding Festival really pointed us in the right direction regarding what still needs to be done. As it stands, there are still a few things to sort out before the big day, two of which are the wedding invitations and honeymoon arrangements. Both, I am convinced, will produce a great deal of blogging material. Now all that remains for me to do is take the information gathered at the Wedding Festival and apply it to the obstacles that are yet to come!
