If you are newly-engaged and feeling all at sea, wondering where to start, we suggest you invest in a copy of The really useful WEDDING BOOK for South Africa. The book contains everything you need to know when planning a wedding, and is available from leading bookstores in South Africa, or directly from Celebration House in Claremont, Cape Town. (It also makes an ideal engagement gift!) See 'Christmas gifts' below. 'Planning Your Wedding' talk

These popular talks cover every aspect of planning your wedding, and provide you with lots of useful information that will save you time and money. At the talk, I will be joined by members of the law firm, Catto Neethling Wiid, who will give you the lowdown on the watchpoints to be aware of before signing an ANC. Christmas gifts Looking for something unusual to give your newly engaged friends? If you would like to offer them the chance to attend a 'Planning Your Wedding' talk, we will be happy to provide you with a gift voucher to hand to them. My book, The really useful WEDDING BOOK for South Africa, is available at Celebration House at the reduced price of R80.00, and to make your shopping easier, we will also gift-wrap it for you at no extra cost. Pets at weddings I attended a wedding recently where the bride had her pet (a beautiful Dobermann), act as the couple's ring-bearer. I was very impressed at how well the dog behaved during the ceremony. On the Order of Service, the couple had listed the dog and the reason for choosing him as their ring-bearer. If you would like to have your pet at your wedding, it's obviously advisable to check in advance that the venue you choose for your nuptials has no objection to the presence of animals. The Numbers Game Ivana Trump married in April 2008 for the fourth time. 25 - the number of bridesmaids she had in attendance $1 million - the amount reportedly spent on the ring 24 - the number of years by which the groom was younger than his bride 4 metres - the height of the chocolate wedding cake flown in from Germany 24 - the number of members of the orchestra brought from Paris 7 - the number of months the marriage lasted! This month's interesting question I have received many questions lately regarding the wearing of a wedding veil. Many brides are not keen to do so, but feel obliged to wear one to keep their mothers happy! My article on this interesting subject should give you food for thought, click here. This month's green tip When choosing the lighting for your wedding, Mac of Sound FX Entertainment recommends that you use energy-saving L.E.D lighting, for several reasons. Its life span of up to 100 000 hours and low wattage, means your power consumption will be low. This also means a low generation of heat, which is perfect in summer, and an added bonus is that there are almost no UV emissions. Colour selection can be controlled via laptop (no more colour gels and manual colour selection). Proposal tip I am always amazed to hear how many guys - especially foreigners - choose to propose on top of Table Mountain. When you come to think of it, it certainly is a very romantic spot, especially at night, with the whole of the Mother City's lights twinkling beneath you. If you are thinking of proposing this month, then I have to share this money-saving tip with you - plan your trip for after 6pm and take advantage of the Cableway's Sunset Special, whereby you can travel at half-price (a mere R72,50 per person). This special has been extended until 28 February 2009, so if you don't get to propose during the festive season, there is always Valentine's Day! This month's competition This month we are offering two couples the wonderful chance to win a prize to attend the Jazz Brunch which is held every Sunday at Catharina's Restaurant in the beautiful grounds of Steenberg Hotel. For more information, click here. The Wedding & Honeymoon Association of South Africa (WAHASA) I read a sad story recently involving a couple who had chosen a videographer to film their wedding day for them. Seven months later, they were still waiting for their wedding video! Fortunately, the videographer was not someone we recommend and they had found him on another website. Remember that, to ensure you receive excellent service on your special day, it is always a good idea to choose a service provider who is a member of The Wedding & Honeymoon Association of South Africa (WAHASA), as all their members have signed a strict Code of Conduct. Visit their website www.wahasa.co.za. Real Weddings If you use a Celebration House photographer, as well as three more of our service providers for your wedding, we would love to give others the chance to share your special day's highlights, by featuring YOUR WEDDING on our website's REAL WEDDINGS page. This will not only give you the opportunity to show off your wedding photos to all the visitors to the Celebration House website, but will also put you in line to win some wonderful prizes. In fact, the more Celebration House service providers you use, the bigger the prize! To enter, click here. Celebration House At Celebration House in Claremont, in addition to the vast array of displays on view, we also have a good collection of imported wedding books and the latest imported wedding magazines, which visitors are welcome to spend as much time as they like browsing through. Remember, too, that although we are not wedding or event planners, we will provide you, at no cost, with the tools you need to do your planning successfully yourself. All those who exhibit at Celebration House are leading professionals in the wedding industry, and are approved by WAHASA. We are centrally situated at 14 Protea Road, and we offer free parking right outside our door! Top tip from Celebration House Never lose sight of whose wedding you are planning. This is your wedding and not the one your mother wanted thirty years ago, or the one your sister thinks you should have. My very best wishes to you all for a wonderful festive season.
