Greetings to you all.

Isn’t it great to know that spring is just around the corner? I’ve already noticed some blossoms on the trees and I love the fact that the daylight hours are increasing. However, knowing Cape Town well, I am sure Mother Nature still has some big storms to fling our way before winter is well and truly over. To keep all our spirits up, we have lined up an exciting event, namely...

Goodie Bag Month
The month of August is Goodie Bag Month at Celebration House. As it is also known as Women’s Month, all brides-to-be visiting Celebration House during August will be given exciting Goodie Bags to take home with them.
These bags contain a variety of items, including delicious slabs of Lindt chocolate and copies of Condé Nast’s House and Garden magazine, as well as much, much more! To tell you all that's in store would spoil the fun – we’d rather have you pay us a visit and find out for yourself. On Saturday mornings, we will also be serving glasses of delicious sparkling wine. All the more reason to head in our direction! But don't delay - this offer is only available while stocks last.

Win-a-Wedding Competition
The judges were overwhelmed by the hundreds of entries received for the recent Win-a-Wedding Competition we ran in conjunction with iafrica.com. Unfortunately, only one couple could win and the lucky winners, Lucrishia Christians and Hilton Morgan, were over the moon with excitement at being chosen. Their wedding will take place at The Jonkershuis in Constantia on Tuesday 25 August. Click here to read about the wonderful prizes they have won and to see a photo of the happy pair.

The National Wedding Show, London
Celebration House will once again be taking part in The National Wedding Show being held in London from 2nd – 4th October 2009. This will be the eighth time we will be exhibiting at this Show, where we plan to promote Cape Town and South Africa as the ideal choice for destination weddings. If you (or someone you know), will be in London during that weekend, please visit us at the Show (Stand E55), where we will be handing out copies of our full colour publication, Under African Skies - a guide to weddings and honeymoons in South Africa.

The Numbers Game
Ten reasons why Cape Town and South Africa are regularly featured as one of the top five destinations for weddings (and why we go to the London Show to promote our city):

  1. The weather! Most couples want a wedding in the sun, and Cape Town enjoys 2980 hours of sunshine per year (compared, for example, to London's measly 1480).

  2. The wedding season of good weather in this country extends to 39 weekends, compared to only 13 in the UK.

  3. Our favourable exchange rate means that couples can have the wedding of their dreams at a fraction of the cost.

  4. Cape Town boasts world-class wedding service providers (and remember, all those who advertise through Celebration House are recommended professionals).

  5. There is no jet-lag, as the travelling time to South Africa from Europe is only 11 hours.

  6. Unlike many foreign countries, South Africa has English as an official language, which means wedding planning is a breeze.

  7. Having their wedding in Cape Town offers couples an ideal way to escape meddling relatives!

  8. The ability to combine a wedding and honeymoon in one of the world’s most beautiful places is an added drawcard.

  9. South Africa – and the Cape in particular - boasts some stunning locations for weddings, ranging from beaches and mountain tops to winelands and game farms.

  10. South Africa is situated halfway between Europe and Australia, making it easy for friends and relatives from afar to attend your wedding.

This month’s Green Tip
Always choose confetti that is biodegradable. Rose petals and dried fynbos are the best options, but it is advisable to check in advance with your venue as to their policy regarding throwing any form of confetti on their grounds.

This month’s interesting question
Q. Do I walk down the aisle on my father’s left- or right-hand side?

A. Traditionally, the bride walks down the aisle on her father’s right-hand side. He can then easily hand her over to the groom, at which point she links her arm through the groom’s left arm. According to tradition, the reason for this was to ensure that the groom had his right arm free, in case he needed to reach for his sword to defend his bride!

Making an entrance...
If you would prefer to make an unusual entrance, you might like the way an American couple entered the church for their wedding. Once on Youtube, it quickly attracted millions of viewers. (You can view it by clicking here.)
I read that Chris Brown, whose song Forever…yeah, forever they used for their entrance, has had a big increase in sales of his CD since it went live on Youtube!

Celebration House Top Tip
It is always wise to spend a little time with your musicians before the wedding, to make sure they are au fait with the music you have chosen for your ceremony, especially if you have chosen unusual hymns, as this will avoid any last minute glitches!

We look forward to seeing you soon! And remember, August is GOODIE BAG MONTH at Celebration House!

Until next time

Best wishes
