My daughter was married in Central Park in June. She is South African and married an American. They would also like to be married in Cape Town in December this year. Are there any legal implications? I was the only one able to attend the NYC wedding and it would be wonderful if we could have a South African wedding with all her family and friends. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
As your daughter’s marriage in the USA is recognized in this country, it will be impossible for her to remarry here. However, there is no reason why she cannot have a 'renewal of vows' service - in fact, this is what many ex-South Africans have done. This would be a religious service only, so there would be no need to report it to the Department of Home Affairs. If you require a Marriage Officer for this purpose, please contact us, as I am sure that one of those listed with us would be only too happy to assist you.
