We are planning to get married on a Sunday, which also happens to fall on a public holiday. I heard from some friends that you require special permission to wed on a Sunday and that some ministers won't perform ceremonies on a Sunday. Please would you let me have any information you have regarding this subject.
Regards
Kim
Dear Kim
At present there is no law that says you need any special licence or permission to marry in South Africa on a Sunday. The main reason ministers are reluctant to hold weddings on a Sunday is because they have to accommodate their regular Sunday church services and it is usually difficult to allow time for a wedding as well. There is no reason why you cannot hold the wedding at the reception venue, or in a chapel that is not used for regular church services (such as the one next to The Range in Tokai forest).
The Department of Home Affairs' website is a good site to visit if you would like to read the official Act. Their web address is http://home-affairs.pwv.gov.za. At the top of the site under 'search for', type in the word 'marriage'. If you would like details about a minister to marry you, let me know and I will forward you the names of those we recommend.
Best wishes
Pam Black
